When I begin with issues I seek to address among my parishioners or with their spontaneous questions, knowledge of the Scriptures becomes especially important. The more you know the Bible the more ready you are to choose the appropriate text for your particular context. Once a text is selected that appears to address a given contemporary situation, the leader can explore the groups question before inviting them to look at the selected Scripture.
