Women, people of color and sexual minorities sometimes claim that robes, stoles, clerical collars and such give them more credibility. The Mormon Church certainly espouses this view, as do many impoverished churches in rural Honduras who attract members by their "dressing for success."

But by using the means of the powerful and successful might we be promoting the dominant culture at the expense of the saving power manifested in the weakness of Christ crucified?
