Tierra Nueva staff members and volunteers offer pastoral support, advocacy and accompaniment to Skagit County’s marginalized and under-class through a variety of means. The work of the Family Support Center is the embodiment of Jesus' love and touch to a needy world.

A typical day in the Family Support Center might involve supplying emergency clothing and blankets, assisting people with legal problems, and helping with job and housing applications.

TN staff accompany people to court, visit people in jail or immigration detention, provide pastoral counseling and prayer, and mediate conflicts with employers, landlords, and insurance companies.

Tierra Nueva’s Family Support Center in Burlington is about:

A warm welcome to new immigrants who often expect indifference or discrimination

Family visitation in migrant camps and other places of residence

Emergency clothing and blankets for farm worker families just arrived

Legal advocacy and accompaniment for people without competent representation, when they face deportation and criminal charges

Court accompaniment for Spanish-speaking immigrants who are uninformed of US laws and fearful of the courts

Mediation between farm workers and growers experiencing misunderstandings or conflict

Referring people with legal troubles to reliable immigration and defense attorneys

Reconciliation between estranged partners through marriage and family counseling

Helping non-English speakers fill out applications and other forms

Emergency transportation to hospitals and other appointments

Providing a place for ex-offenders to do community service that directly helps their community
