The Ministry of Tierra Nueva
Tierra Nueva is an ecumenical ministry to help those in need in our community and around the world.
Our Family Support Center provides free legal aid, social services, counseling, translations, job and housing assistance, citizenship advice, court accompaniment, jail and immigration detention visitation, conflict mediation, emergency relief, clothing, blankets and food for migrant workers and the permanent Hispanic population of Skagit County, WA.
Our faith community El Camino de Emaus (The Road to Emmaus) offers weekly worship services, Sunday school, catechism classes, baptisms and weddings in Spanish. We coordinate a Summer Bible School program for area migrant camps, bilingual jail ministry and hospital chaplaincy.
Our learning center, The People's Seminary, offers courses in scripture study and theological reflection rooted in solidarity with the vulnerable and the weak: inmates, immigrants, and other outsiders. We offer courses and training for people on the margins, congregations, graduate students, seminarians and pastors.
The Tierra Nueva Honduras project teaches sustainable farming techniques, supports water projects, and engages in Scripture study in several communities.

How else can I be involved?
One of the best places to begin is by attending our Sunday services, 4:30 pm in English and 6:00 pm in Spanish. This is a great way to get to know the community and see what we're about!
Tierra Nueva is looking for volunteers, especially bilingual men and women who can assist in outreach and advocacy work.
Responsibilities might include driving people to court dates, meetings, or appointments, translation work, assisting Spanish-speakers with job applications, or providing childcare for the Sunday evening worship celebrations. Ask us when the next volunteer advocate training will be!
